When the
charter bus arrived yesterday, children anxiously fleeted down the steps and
jumped down onto the long- awaited ground of Camp Capers. A lot of us have been
waiting for this week all summer, and for some it is their most memorable
week. For those who do not know, Good
Sam week is a week where children from Good Samaritan Centers all around Texas are
financially funded to come and experience a week at camp. The week is shorter, we
start on a Monday and end on a Friday, but the enthusiasm does not lack the
least.
These kids
are so inspiring. Like every week, I am touched and awed by these kids, but the
ones that come from Good Sam are different. Some come from very little while
others may not have a stable home environment. Our goal as a staff is to make
every one of these children to feel welcomed and loved. We want this to be a
second home for these campers, a sacred place where they can feel safe and talk
about their hopes, fears, whatever they may please! Unquestionably we try to
spread this theme every week, but for this week it is especially important.
This is
going to be an awesome week, and I cant wait to share it will you all at home.
Love to all,
Lena B.
